We consider caring for and preserving our magnificent natural and cultural landscape for future generations to be a fundamental part of our economic activities. This includes regional partnerships on the one hand, and the careful use of the environmental resources available to us on the other.

In 2002, our oil heating system was replaced by a heat pump. Put simply, a heat pump is a reverse refrigerator that heats rather than cools. The “cold heat,” e.g., from groundwater (approx. 10°C), is converted into “warm heat” (up to 65°C) by a thermal process. This process is driven by an electric compressor.

Heat pumps are particularly environmentally friendly when groundwater or waste heat, for example, are used as heat sources. This means that more than four times the electrical energy required is obtained from the ground or waste heat for heating. This means a carbon dioxide saving of at least 50%. Primary energy savings exceed 30%.

The large heat pump with a heating capacity of 125 kW provides heating and hot water for the hotel and restaurant. Groundwater is piped from the station forecourt to the heat pump at a depth of 30 meters via a pipe approximately 100 meters long. There, thermal energy is extracted from it and the water is cooled by approx. 4°C. This is then returned and discharged back into the groundwater approximately 20 m from the extraction point.

The small 10 kW heat pump supports the large heat pump in heating and water heating.

To ensure that there is enough hot water for showering and bathing, as well as for use in our kitchen, even at peak times, both heat pumps continuously feed the heat they generate into three large hot water tanks. These tanks each have a capacity of 1000 liters.

In 2014, the heat pump system was replaced by a CHP unit, and since then we have been producing electricity that we use entirely in-house. Unused electricity is fed into the public power grid. This covers a good 40% of the total annual electricity demand. A structural change enabled the waste heat from all cooling system units to be converted for use in heating the water supply. Since the conversion, the existing groundwater well has been used to cool the conference rooms and lobby area.

We also pay attention to short transport routes when purchasing goods. Absolute freshness and controlled quality are further advantages that arise from regional partnerships.

Revitalized water through Grander technology. Grander technology is a form of information transfer. Nothing is added to or removed from the water. The technology enables the water to redevelop lost properties. By restoring the original order and stability of the internal structure of water. Enhanced self-cleaning power, increased dissolving power, tasty food, savings on detergents and cleaning agents, improved plant growth, and beautiful flowers.

The next “green building block” in terms of sustainability in our company is to reduce our consumption of energy, water, and cleaning products.

For stays of several days, we will be offering a “green rate” in the future. By booking this rate, you have the opportunity to make a further contribution to the conservation of resources.

A survey of 2,000 guests revealed a “green rate” approval rating of 91.7%.

The next step is to install a photovoltaic system to heat the service water for hotel operations.
